1. Introduction
Welcome to Token Travel (TT), an online platform operated in South Africa that connects registered hospitality establishments and enables members to earn and redeem Travel Tokens (Tokens) for accommodation and related rewards.
By accessing or using our website, web app, or mobile app (collectively, the Platform), you acknowledge that you have read, understood, and agree to these Terms of Service.
If you do not agree, please do not use the Platform.
2. Eligibility & Membership Requirements
To join Token Travel, you must:
- Be the legal owner or authorised representative of a fully operational hospitality business (Hotel, Lodge, B&B, Guest House, Motel, etc.).
- Be over 18 years old.
- Have an active online listing with an above-average rating.
- Provide accurate, up-to-date information.
- Pay the applicable annual membership fee.
- Agree that TT may verify your listing, online presence, and star rating before approval.
3. Membership Packages & Token Allocation
Once approved, you will receive annual Tokens based on your verified star rating.
Additional rules:
- Tokens activate once membership is approved and fees are paid.
- Tokens renew annually upon auto-renewal.
- Unused Tokens roll over for auto-renewal members only.
- Tokens may be used for accommodation, meals, or experiences listed on the Platform.
4. Token Spending Rules
Accommodation
- 5 Tokens/night for ★★★★★ (1–2 people sharing)
- 10 Tokens/night for ★★★★★ (2–4 people)
Equivalent value may exceed 2–4× the annual membership fee depending on occupancy.
Meals
Drinks, minibar items, and extras are excluded.
- 1 Token = 2 breakfasts OR 2 suppers
- 1 Token = 1 breakfast + 1 supper per person
Children
No Tokens are required for children under 2 years old.
5. Earning & Buying Tokens
5.1 Earn Extra Tokens
- Hosting other TT members
- Running promotional offers
- Booking banner adverts through TT
- Participating in referral programmes
- TT’s automated promotional campaigns
5.2 Buying Tokens
You may buy additional Tokens only if:
- You have an active booking and insufficient Tokens
- You have hosted another member within the past 90 days
Purchases are processed automatically through TT’s secure payment gateway.
5.4 Prohibited Token Activity
Violations may result in immediate termination and forfeiture of all Tokens.
- Private token selling
- Accepting cash from guests and using Tokens to book them
- Trading Tokens outside the Platform
- Unauthorised Token transfers
6. Payments, Fees & Automated Billing
All membership fees, renewal fees, token purchases, and upgrades are processed automatically via TT’s secure payment gateway.
All payments are non-refundable except where required by law.
By providing payment details, you consent to secure storage and processing as outlined in our Privacy Policy.
7. Bookings, Hosting Obligations & Cancellations
All bookings, confirmations, cancellations, and member notifications are fully automated.
6.1 Host Obligations
- Make their establishment available for legitimate Token requests.
- Respond to booking requests through the dashboard.
- Honour all confirmed bookings.
- Disclose any special cancellation rules in their listing.
- Communicate with guests when necessary.
- Understand that a confirmed booking is a legally binding agreement.
6.2 Host Cancellations
Hosts may not cancel within 48 hours of check-in unless:
- The guest agrees
- A legitimate emergency exists
- If a host cancels improperly, they must arrange and pay for alternative accommodation, or penalties may apply.
6.3 Guest Cancellations
- Cancellation within 5 days of arrival → Tokens are forfeited
- No-shows → all Tokens forfeited, and hosts may charge a room fee
6.4 Unapproved Requests
If a booking is not yet approved, guests may cancel anytime without penalty.
6.5 Damages
- Damage to property
- Misconduct
- Liability caused by themselves or guests
8. Member Conduct
- Use Tokens honestly and only within TT
- Not circumvent automated systems
- Not misuse Tokens or exploit loopholes
- Not copy or reverse-engineer TT systems
- Treat all members respectfully
Violations may lead to suspension or termination.
9. Intellectual Property
All branding, software, content, design, code, and trademarks belong exclusively to TT.
No member may copy, reproduce, modify, distribute, or create derivative works without permission.
10. Privacy
TT protects your personal information according to South African and international privacy laws.
We do not sell or disclose your information without consent unless required by law.
11. Limitation of Liability
Token Travel acts solely as an intermediary platform.
- The quality of accommodation
- The accuracy of listings
- The conduct of guests or hosts
TT is not liable for disputes, damages, losses, or claims arising from member interactions.
12. Membership Renewal & Termination
11.1 Renewal
- Membership renews automatically
- Grace period: 14 days to update payment
- After 30 days: account archived and Tokens forfeited
11.2 Termination by TT
- Terms are violated
- Fraudulent activity occurs
- Tokens are misused
- Intellectual property is breached
- Trust or safety is compromised
11.3 Consequences
- All Tokens forfeited
- Fees non-refundable
- Listings removed
- No further access to the Platform
13. Modifications
TT may update these Terms at any time. Continued use of the Platform implies acceptance of revised Terms.
